Central is a community of faith that embraces people of different
lifestyles, income levels, races, and ethnic backgrounds. People
come to worship at Central from every section of the metropolitan
area. Sunday activities include a varied Church School curriculum
and worship with glorious music, powerful preaching, and strong
congregational participation (Click here
for Worship Schedule).
After
the eleven o'clock service, many of us gather for a meal and continued
fellowship. Periodic Sunday afternoon concerts and organ recitals,
annual picnics, and other congregational outings further help
to build our spirit of family and community.
Prayer Services in the Taizé Community Tradition are held
on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Rand Chapel
except during the summer months. During Advent and Lent,
services are held each Tuesday. Click here for the 2008 - 2009 worship schedule.
The
daily work of the church further includes ministry, committee,
and task force meetings; graded choir and handbell rehearsals;
liturgical artists guild; and liturgical dance.
The Theology Of The Task To Which God Has Called Us
At Central Church, we are trustees of a rich historical heritage, and as Presbyterians, as Reformed Christians, we are trustees of a rich theological heritage as well. Each time the Music and Liturgical Arts Committee met in the 2007-2008 season, we took time to reflect on the theology of the task to which God has called us. The resources used were taken from a variety of written sources. In engaging these voices, we took the opportunity to incorporate this body of work into the development of our own voice, our common theological language. It was also our desire to archive these resources so that they could be easily shared with the faith community at Central and beyond, and so we have posted them here. We hope you will find in them a sense of God’s rich blessing on our lives as we seek to offer our whole selves in worship and spiritual formation. Click here to open this document in PDF format.
