Central Neighbors was formed in response to a need by Central members for support in and outside the church. As Central's congregation has continued to grow, Atlanta itself has continued to grow, and the congregation has become increasingly spread out in and around metro Atlanta. Many members do not have the chance to attend Central functions, be a part of a committee, take part in other functions or get to know other Centralites. This feeling that you are a part of a church family, with its camaraderie and support, is a vital part of all churches.

In 1995, a committee was formed to discuss, plan, and pray for a program which would help meet this need. The program was: 'Designed to enhance pastoral care at Central through community building opportunities for members of Central Church'. The first parish 'event' was held for the Grant Park parish in November, 1996.

Central Neighbors encompasses 10 neighborhoods (parishes) with an average of 50-60 members in each parish. The parishes are split into geographical areas.

Every parish has two or more coordinators who keep track of happenings within the parish, needs of members, and help initiate get-togethers for the parish. They also help to assimilate new members into the congregation and provide a foundation for the parish as a whole.
