The Bookworms group is for all Centralites and friends who love to read and talk about what they have read. We meet evenings, in members’ homes, on the fourth Tuesday of the month, September through May. At our meetings, we discuss a book—fiction or nonfiction—previously selected. Our meetings are very informal, with discussion often branching out into diverse areas suggested by comments about the book. Discussion is followed by refreshments and individual conversations; we enjoy each other’s company. Upcoming book selections and author, along with the date, time, and place, are announced regularly in The Weekly.

We Bookworms welcome newcomers. Becoming a member of the group is easy: Simply show up at the next meeting, no formal registration required, no application form to battle.

  • Sept. 25, 2007: The Known World by Edward Jones, reviewed by Sally Labadie at the home of Alan Pieper and Jean Ellen Jones. The meeting time is changed to 7:00 to allow for the fall pot luck supper.
  • Oct 23, 2007: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, reviewed by Kitty Cobb at the home of Wayne and Anne Anderson.
  • Nov. 27, 2007: There is No Me Without You by Melissa Fay Greene, reviewed by Camille Gaffron at the home of Mary Caroline Lindsay.
  • Jan. 22, 2008: March by Geraldine Brooks, reviewed by Wayne and Anne Anderson at Villa International.
  • Feb. 26, 2008: The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, reviewed by guest Dr.Tom McHaney at Villa International
  • March 25, 2008: Kabloona: Among the Inuit by Gontrande Poncins, reveiwed by Jean Ellen Jones at the home of Leslie Pope
  • April 22, 2008: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingslover, Camille Kingslover, and Steven L. Hopp, reviewed by Vicki Collier at the home of Bede Campbell
  • May 27, 2008: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, reviewed by Mary Caroline Lindsay at the home of Sherry and Donn Wright.  The meeting time is changed to 7:00 to allow for the end-of-year potluck supper.
